Living Legendary: Built by our Legendary Team led by Al Curtis, this awesome hybrid swimming pool in South Lyon Michigan has a vinyl liner by Latham/Kakfo in Reef, and Gunite Sun ledge, Spa and Steps – finished in ecoFinish Mediterranean Blue, Slide in Sandstone (hint: Turtle Car Wax makes the slides go!) It’s also tiered to make a side yard with an extreme slope a functional fun entertaining space.
When asked what Al especially liked about this project, in addition to the really cool homeowners, he mentioned the extreme elevations.
Extreme elevations created a non-functional yard for this homeowner. The back yard was very small to the rear, and the lot had more side yard, which happened to have a 20+’ drop from the edge of the driveway to the rear lot line.
When the house was built – the lot was specifically designed to accommodate the typical “back yard” space on the side of the house. The design challenge was 20’+ of elevation change in less than 40′ of distance, from the driveway to the rear of the lot. The pool guy’s approach is what he loves to do when faced with a challenging yard: design a pool at multiple levels to 1: use up the maximum amount of yard available 2: create levels of visual/useful interest 3: do something others wouldn’t even dare to dream to do 4: challenge himself and our team to pull of something extraordinary.
The design approach included using up the maximum amount of space to incorporate a pool, which had to be designed on multiple levels. Beginning with a slide overlooking the equipment area, a spa, gunite sun ledge, and steel wall vinyl liner pool this pool also features a swim up tiki bar, raised exterior pool wall, waterfall with carved turtles and an amazing tiered patio for maximum seating and entertaining spaces.
