Sandi Maki: At the point where somebody decides that they would like to hire us to build this legendary escape, they have a piece of paper. And, I think that’s a bit significant, because we’re talking about a long process. And at the point where they decide that we are the company to spend this pretty substantial amount of money for their pool project, they have a piece of paper and a story about what their yard could be. I am Sandi Maki, the Coordinator of Everything for Legendary Escapes, the swimming pool construction company, and for Ask the Pool Guy, which is our service division. With every pool project there’s a backstory, because our clients meet us in different ways.
Al: So , up to this point we’ve done design work. We’ve built models. We’ve messed with the customer a little bit in terms of teasing and a lot of internet stuff. We’ve found that if we can interact with the customer on a whole different level, a whole different plane, it’s no longer construction. We’re no longer building a swimming pool. Instead, we’re creating an environment. We’re creating an experience for people.
Al: Today we start the adventure of the pirate pool. We’re going to go ahead and go lay out the pool. We’re going to pick up the permits and sort of give you a sense of what the beginning stages look like. It’s not the most glamorous or the most fun, but it’s critical. When considering building and having a construction job done, it is always important and always better to get permits. All right, we’re going in. That way, we have inspections, there’s township record, we know exactly what’s happened to the property. And sure, maybe you don’t like it for you, but look 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 years down the road when someone else is now living at that property. It’s important to have the township document exactly what’s happened there.
So, here we are. Paperwork permits bought and paid for ready to go. Now, we can go build the swimming pool. So, this is a hybrid pool. A hybrid pool is a vinyl liner pool … The main body of the water is vinyl with steel wall, vinyl liner, but then we do gunite accents. The sun shelf, the love seats, the waterfall are shot out of concrete. But, we have a kitchen are here. Over here we have a fairly simple pergola. Across, I’m going to step down to the patio here. The features: obviously the sun shelf. There’s a loveseat here. There’s a spitting turtle, a fire feature, and then this right here is the pirate ship. It’s like a shipwrecked pirate ship. The slide comes down the side. I imagine we’ll have water coming out of cannons on the front end and that type of thing there. And then, a step down area to a fire pit. This is indicating the bar area, so the whole bar area is this pirate themed kitchen, the bar area. And what we have currently painted on the ground is this inner shape of the swimming pool.
Katie Curtis: Hey, I don’t want to hold you for long. But just in case you were wondering about who that voice is behind the camera or who that unnamed person is walking right in front of the camera, yeah, that’s me. My name is Katie. I am Al’s daughter. Currently, I am the lead videographer and editor for this whole shebang. Yeah, we’ll get back to me, but I just wanted to give you a heads up. And, you will definitely hear, see, encounter more of me even if it’s not like this. Okay, back to your show.
