Rectangle Vinyl Liner Pool with Auto Cover, vinyl covered steps across shallow end of pool, red flagstone coping.
A southwestern feel was the goal for this custom backyard pool design in Berkley, Mi. The homeowner wanted a sport pool (depth gets no deeper than 5′) for sports in the pool, including volleyball. The patio was poured and colored/textured with a red/tan finish to accent the stone coping which was selected with the same considerations. The pool features steps along the entire shallow end of the pool, which were constructed out of poured concrete and covered in vinyl. The pool has an automatic pool cover (in a dark chocolate brown – which you should really consider if you are doing an automatic cover – it really helps to hide the dirt and debris, which will settle on your cover when it’s in use.) The pool equipment is Pentair, and this pool features a salt generating system (Intellichlor) by Pentair. The pool requires little maintenance – and the homeowner uses a Dolphin Pool Cleaner, as well as has the water chemistry tested regularly to ensure an optimum balance. Pools with automatic covers that have chlorine generators will typically not need to produce as much chlorine to keep the pool sanitized since the cover helps to keep the sunlight off of the pool, reducing the chlorine that is rendered useless by the sun. Make sure that you check your chlorine (Cl2) output if you have an automatic cover to ensure you are sanitizing adequately, and not over producing your chlorine.
Homeowners let us know all the time that they just love to vacuum their pools! I am kidding, of course. While some may enjoy the opportunity to work on a tan, the majority of homeowners would rather be lounging pool side than doing work all the time. The pool cleaner that we recommend, hands down, is the Dolphin pool cleaner. The dolphin comes in a variety of models, and you can get corded or uncorded remote control versions. We like this system because your debris is trapped into a self contained unit, which you can empty with ease. The system also runs independent of your swimming pool plumbing and system, so it can run as long as it’s plugged in. No need to fuss with your plumbing system. Whichever dolphin model you choose, be sure to purchase from a reputable swimming pool store so you can avoid warranty or service issues in the future. The model pictured below is the one that I use in my pool – and it’s been a huge time saver!

The only pool cleaner that we recommend is the Dolphin Robotic by Maytronics. It’s a self contained unit that has a power center – you can also get one that is cordless and remote controlled – so the debris goes right into the collection area in the unit itself. By far the best cleaner on the market. There is an initial investment between $1200-$2400 depending on the model you purchase. It is well worth it. Make sure to buy from a pool professional vs. a big box store or online. The warranty is much better – as well as the quality of the product. http://www.maytronics.com/
